This was supplied by Airplay Aircraft in the UK who have been brilliant for differences training, technical support and advice. See http://www.airplayaircraft.co.uk/snake/ the website says “The ultra-lightweight Snake trike is a nanolight aircraft which can either be operated as a sub-70kg SPHG flexwing, allowing it to be flown legally without a licence, or as a fully-fledged microlight.
The Snake trike folds in minutes for easy transport in the boot of the average family car, combining the portability of a paramotor with the enhanced weather capability of a microlight. It holds the current World Record for distance flown without engine power.
The Snake flexwing nanolight trike is designed to take advantage of the CAA Exemption E4653, allowing powered, wheeled aircraft to be flown solo without a formal licence. The aircraft needs to weigh sub-70kg with full fuel (75kg with a parachute), stall at less than 20knots and carry adequate third party insurance. However, it can still be registered as a microlight if you already have a licence.
As the lightest trike on the UK market the Snake can be paired with more powerful engines and efficient double-surface wings, whilst still remaining legally below the sub-70 limit. Primarily constructed of 6082 T6 alloy with solid Ergal 7075 undercarriage legs, the Snake has been load tested to an amazing +6G with a 100kg pilot without any permanent deformation of the structure. The Snake also boasts the highest payload of any UK sub-70 trike.
The Snake folds up in minutes for easy transport in most cars, eliminating the cost and exposure involved with trailering. Simply remove the detachable 10litre fuel tank and 3 pins to fold the trike and remove the undercarriage legs. Furthermore, the trike geometry allows the wing basebar to be laid flat on the ground, simplifying the rigging process dramatically. A genuine 10-15 minute rigging time including both the trike and wing is easily achievable, making the Snake one of the most portable flexwing aircraft ever created.
The Snake comes with a nosewheel brake as standard. Incredibly strong solid main undercarriage legs eliminate the need for draggy bracing wires and also provide effective suspension on rough ground. The standard foam-core tyres are essentially puncture-proof.”
As a Paramotorist I wanted something equally convenient and portable but with a fixed wing for a wider weather window and not have to carry everything on my back.
The sub 70 category is hilarious fun. Takes off and lands from a postage stamp.
I have both the standard 10 litre fuel tank but also had manufactured a bespoke 15 litre aluminium alternative as shown on the photos (which can be used in SSDR configuration)
I have a lot of toys and now find that I mostly fly general aviation/three axis microlights, so I am just not using it, so better to give someone a chance to fly Like new condition and only a handful of hours and carefully stored throughout in a dry warm garage Bought in summer 2018.
I have an APCO parachute fitted which is available separately and also a 33hp Cisco Bullmax available separately and an Aeros Topless wing available separately, if you want the whole kit together, although the topless wing takes it over 70 kg in to SSDR so you are best talking to Airplay about a Griff or Aeros wing that keeps it within the sub70 category if that is the way you want to go with the trike.
